December 19 2024 - why I love personal websites, my experiences with html and css, and some tips for starting one

I created this website on august 19 2024, about 4 months ago now! as a personal summer project... I was inspired when I discovered some sites on here and the idea of having a personal website has stuck with me since then. since I discovered neocities I have seen so many personal websites! I love seeing the diferent ways people style their own websites (its a nice change from boring profiles on social media) I think its a really fun and creative way to express yourself! theres so much you can do with a website, ive seen so much cool stuff!!!! for a long time all the websites ive really seen were corporate sites they really feel lifeless to me but seeing websites that people made just for fun and are so full of life makes me so so so happy!

when I made dreams of vinushka I only knew a little html and css I actually made a tumblr theme before this (it was harder imo) it was pretty frustrating but it was my first project and there was a pretty big learning curve. most people say that html and css are some of the easiest coding language (especially html) which i do agree with but its a little hard starting out. Im very glad i did not give up one thing i regret is not trying to make a website earlier... overtime there have been lots of changes and i am glad for thoes to because other wise i dont think i wouldve stuck with it. it has been very fun and i hope to continue it for a long time

lastly some tips i have for anyone interested in making a personal website! these are mostly based on personal experiences but i still think theyd be good for most people.

these tips are pretty basic but they help

  1. dont try to stick to certain aesthetics just because theyre popular... trying to stick with an aesthetic just because its popular can take a lot of the fun out of site making sometimes (unless you like trying to do that) it is a personal website after all make it look how you like
  2. dont worry about being "cringe"... ive found that worring about stuff like that kills my motivation and you should do what makes you happy
  3. remember that it can take a long time esspecially when youre just starting out... dont rush yourself it can take a while to make it look good, taking your time can help make it even better
  4. take breaks... this is probably the most basic advice when working on a project but it is for a reason, taking breaks is one of the best things you can do it can prevent you from getting burnt out and it can help when youre feeling stuck
  5. plan stuff out... planning things out can be very helpful, its good to know how you want to make things look or what pages to make.
  6. dont be afraid to look things up or ask questions... there are so many great resources online for learning any coding language! and theres a good chance that someone else has had the very same question at some point. there are lots of people on the internet who would also probably be willing to help as well if you have specific questions or want more in depth answers

i know this got a little rambly but i hope it helped! i want to make a full guide on making your own site eventually
